Job: Researcher (equivalent to Lecturer or higher) / Post Doctoral Researcher, Computational Mass Spectrometry Imaging and Informatics, NPL? Teddington, UK

[ This announcement has been updated to reflect the position is not that of a Senior Research bu that of a Researcher, I also updated the salary. Sorry for the inconvenience ]

Stephane just sent me the following:

Dear Igor,

I hope you are doing well !

I am contacting you because NPL (Teddington UK) is looking for a good candidate on a very interesting project in Mass Spectrometry needing skills in sparsity, low rank factorization and data fusion. The overall project is ambitious and very exciting and is sure to have a significant impact in both spectrometry and medical applications. This will be also a very good opportunity for introducing cutting edge machine learning methods in this field where loads of 3 to 5 dimensional big data await fast and accurate data analytic algorithms.

Hoping you can post the following  description on Nuit Blanche,

Kind regards,
Stephane

Here is the description:

Job Ref: 63762

Job Title: Researcher (equivalent to Lecturer or higher) / Post Doctoral Researcher, Computational Mass Spectrometry Imaging and Informatics

Location: Teddington, UK

Type: Fixed Term

Salary: £20k - £35k

Contact: Ian Gilmore. Email: ian.gilmore@npl.co.uk

Join a world leading research team at the National Centre of Excellence in Mass Spectrometry at the UK`s National Physical Laboratory.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the National Centre of Excellence in Mass Spectrometry Imaging (NiCE-MSI) to lead the development of computational methods for data analysis including low rank matrix and tensor estimation methods, image and data fusion, high-speed computational methods for large data sets (GPU programming, multithreaded software).

NiCE-MSI develops state-of-the-art measurement and metrology capabilities for mass spectrometry imaging (MSI). Projects in NiCE-MSI include innovation in MALDI, ambient MS and the development of a world-leading 3D nanoSIMS instrument.

The candidate will have to improve and implement cutting edge techniques from machine learning and online algorithms with sparsity priors. A background on spectroscopy is not a prerequisite for applying. Rather, the candidate will have a strong track-record in computational methods for current data fusion and machine learning problems and fast algorithms for large but structured data sets.

The team has an excellent publication output and provides a supportive environment to further research careers. We offer competitive salaries, a wealth of career opportunities and a wide range of benefits.

NPL is based in a unique research environment, which is located in pleasant surroundings on the edge of Bushy Park in south-west London. We have a host of onsite facilities including a subsidised creche, restaurant, and a sports and social club.

NPL Management Limited is committed to supporting its people to develop both personally and professionally and is committed to equal opportunities.
