CS: CASSIS Cubesat

You may have noticed some gaps in the blog postings recently. One of the few reasons has been the writing of a proposal to NSF to fly David Brady's Hyperspectral Imager using techniques of compressive sampling in Space. The spacecraft in which the camera would be hosted is not more than 10 cm^3 and is called a Cubesat. The code name for this Cubesat is CASSIS or Coded Aperture Snapshot Spectral Imager for Space weather and the atmospheric sciences. It is slated to look at airglow and aerosol concentration as a function of altitude using Sun occultation. Let's cross our fingers. Kudos too to Ashwin Wagadarikar on his first proposal writing exercise! Let us also note that this proposal would never have happened without this blog. I certainly would have never "met "David otherwise. In the meantime, the next Space project involving CS is Herschel which will launch in two days.
