Nuit Blanche in Review (February 2013 edition)

Since last January's review [45], we featured a rather large list of implementations [1-13], a set of meetings reviews [26] , some hardware related entries [16-23] , two job announcements [14-15] a new dataset [42], two Sunday Morning Insights [24,25], issues related to publishing [26-31] and some miscellaneous entries [32-44].

What about crosscutting issues ? Let us note that an implementation in [13] was eventually retired after a peer review [27] was done on it and was found to have a flaw, another paper was strengthened as a result. We are seeing a shift in the peer review world where Reddit, Google+, LinkedIn are already part of Peer Review Systems. If only you could get points out of those. Talking about sensing signals, we may be seeing the birth of a new sensor giant [23, 15] thanks to CMOS and the development of a start-up.[20].

In terms of theoretical development, we get to better know why the Non Negative Matrix Factorization (NMF) works and how it brings some lights in the calibration process [2]. Calibration was also central in a paper that took some time to come out [19]. similar issues were covered in [11, 19] and will be central to hardware development [16-23]. We were also witnessed to the development of new imaging modalities [12, 17, 18, 19, 20, 38, 40[ that are sometimes helped thanks to a compressive sensing approach.

We saw some new libraries for dealing with tensors [8.9] and some new schemes for group testing [35] while developing a new understanding of data matrices [8 , 11, 25]. Finally, the two Sunday Morning Insighta [24,25] triggered some interesting discussions.
