The Department of Mathematics at Drexel University, Philadelphia, anticipates to make a postdoctoral appointment with a starting date of September 1st, 2012 (negotiable). Applicants are required to hold a PhD in Mathematics or related area, with expertise in Sparse Approximation/Compressive Sensing/Statistics. They should have knowledge of (or be willing to learn) bioinformatics and genomics. Strong computational skills are also a plus. The position requires working on the NSF-funded collaborative project "Improving Analysis of Microbial Mixtures through Sparse Reconstruction and Statistical Inference" under the joint mentorship of Simon Foucart (Mathematics), Gail Rosen (Engineering), and Loni Philip Tabb (Biostatistics). The goal of this project is to develop new mathematical techniques to enhance microbial classification and comparison from next-generation sequencing technology. The position carries no teaching duties, but a small teaching contribution is possible upon request and is encouraged. The appointment is renewable for 1 year, assuming satisfactory performance.
