Are urban tapestries maps ?

Cable just showed me a project where people put virtual sticky notes on buildings. It's called urban tapestries. It sure looks like the beginning of a project where one could build better and cheaper maps. As I have said before, this is probably one of the only way to have a good map for tourists in say, Paris.
